2025 Jaipur Stakes Winner
Pinch me . . . this is what I do; it's not a traditional job, it's not even work in the way you think of work . . . I get paid and I get asked to paint some of the best horses in the world.
This is AG Bullet . . . she's won a couple Grade 1 races, so she's a fast horse, but on top of that she's BEAUTIFUL!
This painting of her winning at Saratoga is 4 ft x 5 ft.
I painted this for her breeder in Arizona. This is the second painting for their family. They've been racing horses for over 40 years, but they had their first Grade 1 winner a couple years ago with Desert Dawn. It was an honor to be asked to record that very special moment in time for them. I'm so glad that it only took a couple years to breed another G1 winner. Beautiful horses, beautiful people . . .
PS - Hollie, the breeder, told me they were watching AG Bullet race with a group of friends. One of which was a college chemistry professor who looked at the name and said, "On the periodic table, AG is the symbol for silver . . . Silver Bullet." it was an AH-Ha moment. Later, I met the Than family who race AG Bullet and I sounded smart when I asked if "AG was for silver". They smiled and were so pleased that somebody knew their secret to the horse's name . . . AND you too can look smart, if you hang out with college chemistry professors at the races or just listen to my wondering stories that are plucked from people who are smarter than the average bear.
Geez, isn't she lovely? . . . wow, just wow!
Sidenote: two tone tails that are dark at the top and cascade down into a lighter tone are called "fountain tails" . . . I just couldn't resist moving her to the spot on the track where I could have a little fun with the fountain in the infield pond with her magnificent fountain tail flowing underneath it.
Ag Bullet is one of the most exciting turf sprinters of the current era, a flashy gray mare who has racked up Grade 1 wins for one of California's most colorful ownership groups. She was foaled in 2020, a daughter of the popular sire Twirling Candy out of the Forestry mare Noble Grey. She races for the partnership of Calvin Nguyen and Joey Tran, and her career has been guided by Southern California horseman Richard Baltas. Her style is built on pure flying speed across the green courses of America.
Ag Bullet has been adding stakes wins almost every season since she hit the track. She won the Lady of Shamrock Stakes as a three year old in 2023, then put together a brilliant 2024 campaign with multiple stakes wins. That year she captured the Wishing Well Stakes at Santa Anita, the Grade 3 Monrovia Stakes also at Santa Anita, the Osunitas Stakes at Del Mar, and the Grade 2 Ladies Turf Sprint at Kentucky Downs. The Ladies Turf Sprint was the highlight, and Ag Bullet showed she loved the unique downhill turf course at Kentucky Downs.
Her best year so far has been 2025. Ag Bullet returned to Kentucky Downs and successfully defended her Ladies Turf Sprint title, becoming a back to back winner of that race. Even more impressive, she stepped up and beat the boys in the Grade 1 Jaipur Stakes at Saratoga in June 2025 with John Velazquez picking up the mount. She pressed the early pace and drew off in the stretch to win by two lengths over My Boy Prince, picking up her first Grade 1 victory and a paid berth into the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
Ag Bullet has now collected seven stakes wins and counting, with her connections deciding to keep her in training rather than retire her at the end of 2025. Her sire Twirling Candy has been one of the most exciting young stallions in recent years, and Ag Bullet has become a major standard bearer for his progeny. She is remembered as one of the fastest grass mares of her time, and as the kind of crowd pleaser who lights up turf sprint paddocks at every track she visits.
